Sandbox Network saving/loading in Sandbox 0.5 will be down intermittently this week. Actually, that applies to pretty much everything Sandbox/Elxx related. Everything’s moving to a new server so things will be weird as the DNS whatchamacallits propagate and such. Here’s what’s planned for the next week or two:

• Sandbox 0.5f server patch to provide compatibility with the new new server
• Battleracer 1.29a server patch with a couple new features and fixed stats server compatibility
• Modjive 2.0, relaunching as a fancy new website
• Sandbox 1.0 beta, being released on the new Modjive

Stay tuned.

The errors that some people (Apache_dude!) were receiving when Modjive is started should be fixed. You can install this right over any version of Modjive to update. Let me know if you still have problems.

Informal list of some of the changes:

• Redesigned interface for Available & Installed Mods
• Preview images & movies on Available Mods (not all implemented yet, check Sandbox & PR for examples)
• New download management backend - downloads should be faster, pausing/stopping more responsive
• No more “Apply Settings” button, settings automatically save when you switch away from Settings tab
• Faster startup - Featured Content is loaded after startup now
• Added the option to change your download directory
• Running downloads automatically resume when Modjive is closed and reopened

The most important things, of course, are download speeds and stability. Post your comments on whether you get any errors when trying to download, and what your download speeds are like compared to 1.3.

If you’re feeling brave, you can just install this on top of Modjive 1.3 like any other release. If not, make a backup of your old Modjive directory before installing.

A day after my previous post, one of the sticks of RAM in my computer decided that it was time to retire. Yeah, it just basically keeled over and died, refusing to allow me to boot. Now I’m stuck with 1Gb until the RMA to G.Skill gets processed. Unfortunately, this makes it a bit difficult to work on Sandbox because BF2 insists on eating the majority of my remaining memory and not even allowing my quaint code editor to run in the background without completely locking up the computer for a minute as it shits itself. Nevertheless, I have the basic framework set up for the majority of the animation system, including unlimited keyframes for each object so you can do some complex movement. If BF2 allows me to, I’ll take yet another crack at making Pitch/Roll work on groups as well.

But in the meantime, I’ve been working on Modjive 1.4. The interface has been reworked a bit to incorporate more graphical elements, and mods now have shorter summaries complemented by screenshots and videos. After all, you’d rather look at pictures than read an essay, right?

Quite a few users were asking for the ability to change your download location, so that’s now implemented. It also includes another round of stability tweaks - I gave an alpha release to a few people who were having issues with downloading/launching mods, and it worked perfectly for all of them. There will be an open beta available here in a day or two so you guys can check it out before it’s distributed via automatic update.
