BF2CC and 2142CC are by far the worst programs I have ever seen. I can’t believe they’re supported by EA…you’d think that would drive the developers to make something half-decent. But no. For no apparent reason, BF2CC uses the .Net framework instead of standard Windows controls…making it incredibly slow right off the gate. When you use the app for a while, you realize that none of the important functions seem to be multi-threaded…so whenever you do something it freezes up for a few seconds. In fact, it freezes up randomly every once in a while to ensure that you don’t get TOO much control over your server.

Now, I’m trying to start the BF2CC client in order to test BR2142 on a dedicated server. And of course it’s not working. I want to punch the developers while yelling “WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING” or possibly “THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA”.

If I only had time, I’d make my own server control app…

Secondly, has anyone here tried Me.dium? It’s a really cool Firefox plugin that shows you who’s visiting websites connected to you in some way. It’s kinda hard to explain, but essentially it shows you a bubble of the people on related sites. You can talk to these people (other Me.dium users) as well, and I’ve already struck up several conversations simply looking through Digg. It’s great just to interact with random people and talk about the websites you’re checking out. Since it’s an invite-only beta, I’d be glad to drop you an invite if you want.

Battleracer 2142 is progressing nicely, I have made some nice changes to the underlying Python code. I think these changes will be released as a BattleracerBF2 server-only update in a few days since the code is backwards compatible. With the new code, you can see your +R rank and points in-game. As you race, the checkpoint updates also show you what place you’re in and how far you are behind the race leader. Also, if you die midrace, you can reset your car at the last checkpoint you passed.
